When I did this on Mine it gained all the channels and I was happy when I was done .....

This is one of the all time Greatest Radios I have ever owned. It does everything and does it Very Well!!!!
Built in TNC for your Laptop, And APRS/GPS ....

Read Down for Detailed Mod & Pictures

CQ/DX This is Robert W4RFD / KF4CJL

If your not good with small parts STOP RIGHT HERE
Picture of removed Res. next to period( . )

REMEMBER if you haven't saved your settings, this mod will do a reset on your radio and erase ALL of your settings. (memory, APRS, menus, etc.)

This will be the way you will be working on the unit
Print This Page out and keep it next to you ...

I did a lot of research to make sure this was the right Mod and Res, most of what I found on the internet was very unclear as to what Diode or Res. so I traced it all down and when I felt secure ...
....I did it to mine :)

I tried to take good pictures as I was doing it to help others
These three pictures should do it! so please study them with care before you start on yours!!!!!

Ok Lets go!
1. Remove Six Screws on bottom not speaker side.

2. Looking at unit like picture on left, the area will be lower Right hand corner, look for the Only Green Wire on board, Remove that green wire.

3. Then find the W601 Res right under it and clip it or un-solder it, I used a razor blade and cut it out. They are Both located within 2 inches of the  VS-3 voice synthesizer board.

4. Repeater Mod. If you have the American D700A the other Res has already been removed at the Factory if yours is there you can remove it also for the D700E

Study the close up pictures before you start
And Dont Rush The Job!!!

Please also see close-up picture below to make Darn sure you clip the right One !!!!!!

Cut the famous Kenwood green wire, located near the voice synthesizer board connector. The green wire ties two PC board lands together and is about 1/2" long. Make sure the ends can't short against anything, I took mine out altogether.

5. Your Done! Re-assemble the radio in reverse order.
Re-apply power and turn the radio on (it will automatically reset).

Now you have to put all your Freqs & settings back in it :(

Repeater functions. D700A and also the D700E after the Mod.
This transceiver is capable of receiving signals on one band and re-transmitting signals on the other band. This function repeats signals originating from one band, using the other band.
A signal received on band A (VHF) is re-transmitted on band B (UHF). Similarly, a signal received on band B (UHF) is re-transmitted on band A (VHF).

Access Menu 1-7-6 (REPEATER) and select Locked" band Repeater or Cross-band Repeater. The default is "OFF".

Locked-band Repeater
The transceiver always uses the same band to receive or transmit a signal as a repeater. Belore accessing Menu 1-7-6, select one band as the TX band and the other band as the control band.

Cross-band Repeater
If receiving a signal on the TX band, the transceiver switches the current RX only band to the TX band. Before accessing Menu 1-7-6, select the sarne band as the TX and control bands.

If you need, you can cause this transceiver to rermain in the transmit mode for 500 ms after signals drop. Access Menu 1-7-5 (REPEATER HOLD) and select "ON".

Notes:
    • After activating the Repeater function, you cannot access Menu  Other than 1-7-5 and 1-7-6
.

Later I will go into detail on other cool things about this radio
Data and Digipeater, GPS etc....
